An extension of NCR's 300+ community national affordable senior housing portfolio, InCare was originally intended as a service to keep NCR residents in the central Ohio area independent in their own apartment homes, and as a low-cost alternative to unnecessary and expensive care in nursing homes and assisted living facilities. According to InCare & NCR Vice President Terry Allton, "We realized that NCR's extensive housing network, combined with our 47 years of expertise in the senior services arena and long history of advocacy for seniors on a national level, makes NCR uniquely qualified to serve not only residents of our own properties, but seniors in our local areas, as well, in the privacy and convenience of their own homes. Because of the information that we have been afforded via the efforts of the 200+ senior service coordinators throughout our nationwide senior housing network, we have specific insight as to the housing and health care issues that seniors face, so it was natural that NCR would offer another level of service aimed at helping seniors maintain their dignity and independence. Thus, InCare was born, with the mission to help seniors affordably age-in-place. We're excited about it because it ushers in a new era for both NCR and the senior service industry, using an innovative and unconventional approach to resident care."
Adds NCR President & CEO Thomas W. Slemmer, "InCare is more than home care and hospice; it's a merger of affordable, independent housing and health care, to form an organization of dedicated professionals that provides a seamless network of services. InCare's approach changes the way in which health care is delivered. Rather than reacting to a diagnosis or medical crisis, InCare takes a pro-active approach to prevent medical issues from entering a crisis stage. The integration of housing and health care allows for prevention and regular interventions. InCare's common-sense approach will substantially increase older adults' ability age in place, while ultimately adding to seniors' quality-of-life through a more cost-effective model than today's health care model."
InCare is supplemented by NCR's Traditions skilled nursing and assisted living communities. Traditions facilities in Chillicothe, Gahanna, Hilliard, and Waverly offer InCare services to patients who are well enough to be discharged to their homes, but who still require health care oversight and assistance. Via NCR's recent merger with Heritage Day Health Centers, InCare provides services to adult daycare clients who require care before or after Heritage's traditional daytime operations.
